2010 Impreza WRX STI SE & WRX Limited

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ — Subaru of America, Inc. is introducing the 2010 Impreza WRX STI Special Edition at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which runs December 4-13 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Available in an initial limited run of 125 units, the WRX STI Special Edition features upgraded performance suspension (derived from the Japanese domestic market spec C), unique Aspen White paint and custom spec C wheels. Pricing will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Also at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru is introducing the 2010 Impreza WRX Limited model, which adds a leather interior, standard moonroof and SIRIUS(®) Satellite Radio over the feature content of the Impreza WRX Premium model. Turbocharged excitement remains courtesy of the 265 HP, 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine powering Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system through a five-speed manual gearbox.

WRX STI Special Edition

The 2010 WRX STI Special Edition is aimed at the driving enthusiast who is willing to trade a few amenities to gain an extra measure of handling performance over the already extraordinary WRX STI. Suspension for the new version of this high-performance machine is adopted from the Japanese domestic market WRX STI spec C model, which adds a 1-millimeter thicker rear stabilizer bar, stiffer rear sub-frame bushings plus upgraded and retuned springs. The front springs are 16-percent stiffer, while the rear shocks have been stiffened by 29-percent.

Available in early Spring, the first 125 units of the 2010 WRX STI Special Edition will be painted in exclusive Aspen White, set off by the charcoal-colored 18 x 8.5 in. 14-spoke alloy wheels from the JDM WRX STI spec C. The WRX STI Special Edition will then become a regular production model later in 2010, available in standard colors.

The WRX STI Special Edition was developed by Subaru Tecnica International, the high-performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. Compared with the standard 2010 WRX STI, the WRX STI Special Edition features halogen rather than HID headlights; a single-disc CD player / 4-speaker audio system instead of the 6-CD /10-speaker system; manual air conditioning in place of automatic climate control, and body color side mirrors.

All other aspects of the WRX STI Special Edition remain as on the standard model, including the 305-horsepower / 290 lb.-ft. turbocharged/intercooled Boxer engine, 6-speed manual transmission and a high level of driver-selectable powertrain- and dynamic handling-control systems. The car's bulged fenders and rear quarter panels, rear gate-mounted spoiler and aerodynamic ground effects give the WRX STI a direct link to Subaru competition cars. The hood scoop, brake-cooling air intakes and engine heat outlets are all functional.

The Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which remains exclusive to the Impreza WRX STI, offers three selectable automatic performance modes in addition to six manual center differential locking settings. The WRX STI is in addition equipped with limited-slip front and rear differentials. The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system features three driver-selectable positions. On all WRX STI models, the 18-in. wheels are fitted with Dunlop SP600 245/40R18 tires.

The Brembo Performance Brake System employs ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Side-curtain airbags and front seat side airbags are standard. The Incline Start Assist feature can momentarily prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when being driven away from a stop on an incline.

Grassroots Motorsports magazine purchases Subiesport Magazine

Sad to see my beloved subiesport go but hopefully it will be just as good over at GrassRootsMotorsports

HOLLY HILL, Fla., November 18, 2009—Motorsport Marketing, Inc., publishers of Grassroots Motorsports magazine, are pleased to announce that they have acquired Subiesport Magazine’s print and digital editions from MediaSpigot LLC, a media company based in Kirkland, Wash. Grassroots Motorsports Publisher Tim Suddard had this to say about the purchase: “Here at Grassroots, we know and love Subarus and have been at the forefront of the blossoming Subaru market for many years. Bringing Subiesport into our fold is a good fit for both companies and will mutually benefit our combined readerships. Not only will we fulfill all remaining Subiesport digital and print subscriptions with Grassroots Motorsports, but we’re also going to ramp up coverage. Our hope is that we can deliver beyond our new readers’ expectations.” David S. Wallens, Grassroots Motorsports editorial director, commented on how the acquisition will affect the editorial side of Grassroots Motorsports: “In addition to our already extensive autocross and rally coverage, we have begun to create even more Subaru-specific features in light of this acquisition. In fact, we already went out and purchased our new project car: a 2003 Subaru WRX, which we’ve been having fun with. I welcome Subaru fans to give us feedback on our Web site and tell us what they want us to do with it—while it’s still mostly stock.” Tim Suddard continued, “Another great benefit of this acquisition is that, rather than have a competitor in the Northwest, we now have a friend and ally in former Subiesport Publisher Ryan Douthit. We have known Ryan for many years and have respected what he accomplished with Subiesport. Now, however, he’ll be able to put more of his energy into producing great content, both for Grassroots Motorsports as well as his growing video series, ‘Driving Sports TV.’” Douthit added, “Having competed against Grassroots Motorsports in the cutthroat magazine business, I know that the quality of their editorial and the ethics of their staff is unsurpassed. Also, as a larger publishing company, they will be able to do a great job providing the Subiesport readership with the type of content they continue to crave—now eight times a year!” The acquisition is effective immediately. Subiesport subscribers will receive all issues due to them, starting with the April issue of Grassroots Motorsports, which gets mailed in February 2010. About Grassroots Motorsports:? Grassroots Motorsports is the how-to magazine for the serious sports car enthusiast. From profiles of new sports cars to in-depth—and occasionally off-the-wall—project cars, for 25 years each issue of GRM has been packed with practical tips that help real-world sports car enthusiasts get race car performance out of their daily drivers. Our Trip to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum Visit

Well we started out to just go on the Fort Sumter tours since I have been on the USS York Town several times before but upon going up to the ticket booth a lady stopped us and said admission was free to support the veterans and we could go on for free.  Since we had a little time to kill we took her up and then went on the aircraft carrier.  Photos of the carrier and the rest of our Charleston, SC trip can be found here.  We enjoyed see the ship as always and was a little disappointed to see that the destroyer (USS Laffey) and coast guard ship were gone, when asking about it we were told the following which is the same on their website. “On August 19, the USS Laffey was moved from Patriots Point to Deyten’s Shipyard in North Charleston for repairs to her hull. While maintenance is underway, the destroyer will not be available for touring. The repairs are expected to take three to four months after which time the USS Laffey will return to Patriots Point and open, once again, to visitors”.

Hopefully they really do return instead of ending up like the nuclear ship Savannah, if you would like to find out what happened to that ship checkout my previous blog post.  I thought it was awesome that we just happen to go here on that day because they were having a ceremony and had jeeps transporting people back and forth which honestly made it look like a military base…

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum Visit

While walking around the ship we noticed the donation boxes and what they are needing money for, werid that the wife and myself were asking on our last Charleston, SC visit about how much money it would cost to repaint the York town.  Well the sign said 4,000,000 for the repaint and 8,000,000 for the aircraft deck to be redone.  To find out more about donations please visit their website here.

Over all as I always say I will go back to see the York Town as I have been since about 10/12 years old it is always changing and makes the trip worth while, now if they could get some decent polo shirts in the gift shop :) lol.

Our Trip to Fort Sumter

As I talked about in my previous blog post we left the USS York town and went out to Fort Sumter since my wife and I have never been out there.  The ride out there was a little breezy but it was so beautiful out. Once we got tied to the dock and let all the cub scouts get off the boat we departed and walked passed them as they were gathering for the what to do and not do leature.  The fort was simply amazing and I love the history behind it and all the cannons that they have in place.  It would have really been cool if one of the cannons could be restored in a non-firing but movable and able to use the elevation on it.  Pictures of the fort can be found here

 Our Visit to Fort Sumter

Yet again the trip was totally worth while and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Charleston, SC.  Find out a little bit of history while in town, never hurts to know the past!!! For more information on the fort you can visit its website here

Google has announced DNS Servers

Google has announced that today it is launching its own public DNS resolver called Google Public DNS.

Domain Name System (DNS) power how we all surf the web currently. In general internet service providers supply their own DNS servers that resolve web addresses and translate them into the physical IP addresses that web servers are located at. Google says the goal of its own DNS is to help the tens of thousands of DNS resolvers improve their services, ultimately making the web faster for everyone.

However, speed isn’t everything when it comes to DNS. Security is an essential element as DNS is often vulnerable to spoofing attacks, which when taken advantage of will forward all users to a malicious website. Google claims its own DNS “makes it more difficult for attackers to spoof valid responses by randomizing the case of query names and including additional data in its DNS messages.”

The idea of changing your DNS to a third party, other than your ISP, is not a new one. OpenDNS has been providing such services for nearly four years. David Ulevitch, founder of OpenDNS, has summarised his own thoughts on Google’s DNS in a company blog posting today. Ulevitch explains that Google’s DNS is not the same as OpenDNS, stating “we run the largest DNS caches, the fastest resolvers, and we offer the most flexibility in controlling your DNS experience.” Later in the post he praises Google stating that “Google realizes that DNS is a critical piece of our Internet’s infrastructure and that it’s of strategic importance to help people safely and reliably navigate the Internet.” It’s clear in the blog posting that Ulevitch sees Google’s move as clear competition, rounding off the blog post he finishes “so how will this impact us? It’s too early to tell, but largely I think this is a good thing for us. Google DNS currently offers none of the choice and flexibility that our service does. It’s new and untested.”

If you’d like to use Google DNS then please use the settings below, if you are unsure how to set DNS then follow the instructions Google has posted.

  • Primary DNS – 8.8.8.8
  • Secondary DNS – 8.8.4.4

AT&T rated worst carrier in the U.S.

AT&T has been named one of the worst carriers in the U.S. in terms of quality service amongst a survey group of 50,000 individuals from across the country. In a study carried about by Consumer Reports and spotted by ModmyI, AT&T was named the worst in service availability, dropped calls, circuit capacity and voice service, out of the top four carriers.

The top ranking service provider, Verizon came out on top of T-Mobile, followed by Sprint, with AT&T in dead last. The readers score was judged on user’s average monthly bill, customer support and cellular service that included voice, messaging, web access and email.

The surprising part of this news is that country’s only supplier of the iPhone, AT&T, did so poorly on the country’s most popular smartphone device. AT&T ranked the worst in 19 out of the 26 cities surveyed in terms of customer service, while Verizon ranked number one in all 26 cities surveyed.

Legacy GT Blacked out headlights

Been wanting to do this but was afraid of cracking open a set of lights, well I finally did it. I think that I’ve gone though every headlight thread here and every fogging up headlight thread so hopefully they won’t fog up.
